There is a new generation of camcorders called High-definition (HD) camcorders. These new generation of camcorders have increasingly become available. Along with the availability of these HD camcorders is a more affordable price.

Some people can become confused about the difference between standard definition and HD video. The biggest most noticeable difference is the video resolution of the HD technology. The picture that you view on a television or computer screen is created by hundreds of different lines that are projected on the screen. In the case of a standard definition video there are only 480 lines of resolution. In contrast a high-definition video can have up to 1,080 lines of resolution. The result is a clearer and sharper picture. Currently there are three main resolutions of HD video: 1080i, 1080p, and 720p.

There may be some questions about the differences between 1080i, 1080p, and 720p resolution, because to the human eye all three resolutions look the same. The difference between these resolutions is how the unit records a video. The “p” in the 1080p and 720P means progressive scan. The “I” in the 1080i means interlaced video.

The more typical type of recorder is that interlaced video such as the 1080i. This type of recorder records every other line of resolution. So it shows the video by starting with lines 1,3,5 and so on. This is then followed by the other lines such as 2,4, and 6.

The Progressive video does not skip any lines and records every line of video. When it plays it starts with line 1 and progresses to line 1080. You can see the difference when watching fast paced video such as a sports program. You may see some delays in the 1080i whereas in the 1080 P there is no delay or breaking of the picture.

The other difference between HD camcorders and standard video camcorders are the type of medium that is used to record the video and how they can be played back. The older types of standard video were recorded on magnetic tapes disks that could only be played in a VCR. HD is only recorded on mediums that can be read in a digital format.

There are few different types of HD video camcorders that are available to buy. There are different types of mediums in which they record on and different sizes. Some of the different types of mediums available are MiniDV tapes, mini-DVDs, hard disks, and flash drives. Each of these mediums can hold different amounts of data. The larger the data capacity a disk has, the longer that you can record.

Hot on the heels of the 1980s Cabbage Patch Kids craze and the 1990s mix of walking, talking and cartwheeling dolls came a new generation of trendy dolls imaged after real life. Kids are now able to find an overhwleming assortment of dolls that sport outfits just like theirs, wear intense makeup, and have realistic-feeling hair that can be styled a variety of ways.

It comes as no surprise that Barbie has led the pack for decades, inspiring the latest, flexible-type figures. A prime example of these hip, streetwise dolls is the Bratz collection. Debuting in 2001, The Bratz line presented a vivacious new approach to playtime. The dolls were an instant hit and by 2004, outsold Barbie in the United Kingdom.

The Bratz lineup originally consisted of only four girls, each featuring an urban, edgy look. Over time the collection has evolved to include Bratz Boyz, Bratz Babyz, and Bratz Petz (which has since been discontinued), in addition to other lines and versions. The Bratz dolls became famous for their oversized faces and features, making them an instantly recognizable component of toy and department store shelves.

Although the competition between Barbie and Bratz continues in the United States, Barbie remains on top. In 2005, MGA Entertainment, who introduced the Bratz line, filed a lawsuit against Barbie-based Mattel, alleging Mattel’s “My Scene” line copied MGA Entertainment’s famous facial features. Mattel retaliated with claims that Bratz creator and toy designer, Carter Bryant, worked with Mattel when he came up with the idea. In 2008, Mattel was awarded $100 million in damages.

Barbie, despite some minor updating, has retained her trademark fresh-faced, delicate features. After five decades, Barbie’s massive marketplace keeps Mattel at the top of its game (literally), as the company’s best-selling line. However, like the Bratz lineup, Barbie has had her share of problems; in 2002, Barbie’s pregnant friend, Midge, was pulled from the shelves due to parents’ overwhelming concern that an expectant doll was not a suitable role model for young children, despite the fact that Midge was “married”.

In the grand scheme of the lucrative toy industry, the newest wave of modern dolls has changed playtime for young children. Dolls’ clothing lines now rival that of Paris runways, available in almost every style imaginable. With the addition of each new piece of clothing and accessory comes a new world of imagination for kids. Children can dress their dolls for any season, take them from their cozy house to a camping trip, or turn them into their favorite professional.

Rest assured, no matter which line of dolls a child finds appealing, their deepest desires will be fulfilled through a seemingly neverending world of imagination.

Since the discovery of iron and later, other metal alloys used in weapon and tool making, the knife is probably the most popular equipment ever produced. During the Stone Age, sharp-edged stones are tied to a long wooden handle to make the spear, which is widely thought to be the first weapon and hunting gadget. But the idea of a knife may have been earlier as archeologist theorized that humans used sharpened wood or stone in killing a game, and probably the use of a spear with a longer handle was introduced to get rid of possible injury that may be inflicted by animals such as wild boars and buffalos.

John Gibson has uploaded a very impressive collection of military knives in his website. He showed thumbnail images of different knives coming from various brands, makers or origin. Largely, the collection is taken from World War II vintage military knives and some are more recent Vietnam War memorabilia. Gibson’s collection though has not yet included today’s Rambo knife craze and the utility-conscious Swiss Army knives.

Some designs of military knives shown in Gibson’s collection are combined with knuckles that make the knife twice effective in combat. Knives by Nguyen Dan, a blacksmith in Nin Hoa near the American based at Nha Trang, also form part of the Gibson collection. Slim stiletto knives use by both US and British forces are also part of the collection.

The Gibson’s collection should not be noticed by the kind and make of knives alone. The beauty of genuine leather sheath is captivating as well, and some knives have a peculiar sheaths made of excellent materials, such as the navy seals knife that still has its original issue box.

The inclusion of knives made of non-magnetic metals is also wonderful in the Gibson’s collection. There is also a knife that do not produced spark when in contact with electricity. Such design was used in Vietnam for bomb disposal units.

Knives with aluminum handle must have made them very light and excellent for throwing. Because of the concentration of weight upon the blade, it always comes ahead of the handle when thrown.

In the episodes “Walkabout” of the famous American TV series “Lost”, a knife collection by fictional character John Locke, played by Terry O’Quinn, was showcased. These knives also saw action in the extra mini-feature dubbed as “Terry O’Quinn: Throwing from the Handle”. It is found on the 7th disc of the DVD version of the complete third season of Lost.

The knives featured in the John Locke collection in the movie Lost include the following:
* a master Bowie
* a Tekna Wilderness Edge
* a Master Jaguar
* a Delta Defender from United Cutlery
* a Sentry Tanto knife from United Cutlery
* a nighthawk buck
* a full size serrated edged USMC Ka Bar

Holywood Collectibles Group and Master Cutlery have renewed publicity to promote a signature version of the Rambo knife after the debut of the fourth series of Rambo in 2008. The famous knife with serrated and saw-toothed back of its blade comes in three models as what appeared in Rambo I, II and III and a very different design used in Rambo IV, a design intended for knife collectors.
