Network Marketing

Normally I’m not one to state the obvious, but the network marketing industry is booming. I guess in these uncertain economic times, people are looking to exercise more control over their future than a job can provide.

Unfortunately, many companies and individuals prey on others who are looking for serious ways to make money. These companies make it seem like money will just flow to you, once you join their organization. Everywhere these days I see claims of “Easy Money!” and “Retire in 60 Days!” I find it sad.

So are the claims true? Is network marketing easy money?

Let me just answer with a loud, emphatic, NO. Simple? Yes. But easy? Far from it.

When the ads say things like “Anybody can do this business,” they’re only partly true. Yes, anybody CAN do this business, but not just anybody WILL do this business.

I see an example of this every time I check my downline. Even though my team has a fool proof system in place, only about 1 in 20 who enroll even give it a try! And it’s extremely simple.

So, why don’t these people stick around? Mostly, I’ve found that it’s a lack of belief in themselves. Even though they want the lifestyle we talk about, they can’t accept the fact that they can create it. Soon they start treating their business like a hobby, get bored, and quit.

Unfortunately, most network marketing companies provide little help in this area. Their training usually consists of little more than telling people to make a list of their warm market and talk the business up to everybody they come into contact with.

So, what exactly do network marketers do?

Well, we network and we market. It really is that simple, only usually it’s the marketing that comes first. Marketing just means advertising. Getting the word out about what you’re doing.

The networking is where the magic happens. This is forming relationships with people. It’s finding out what they really want and helping them to achieve it. The relationship make the difference between network marketing and regular sales. It’s not a one-time transaction. I don’t make money until my downline makes money. It truly is a team effort.

Yes, there exist those individuals who strong arm unsuspecting souls into joining their businesses. They’re usually a sales-type, who talk fast handle your objections seamlessly. They treat you like you’re stupid if you don’t sign up.

The best thing you can do when you encounter these guys is to walk away fast. Hang up the phone and hold onto your wallet.

On the other hand, if you find the right team of people to work with, you seriously can live the life you’ve always dreamed of, if you stick with it long enough to learn the ropes.

How do you know if you’re on the right team? Your downline should be calling you at least twice a week. You should have some idea about what to do on a daily basis. If neither of these are true, then perhaps it’s time to start looking around.

Yes, network marketing does work, but you’ve got to put a lot into it. Only you can decide if it’s worth it.

It’s been said that there are two reasons people become successful in network marketing. Everything else is just icing on the cake. I would disagree. There is only one.

The two reasons most people give are a) That you have a marketing system in place, and b) That you are perceived as a leader. This is somewhat redundant, as I’ll explain.

You will not be perceived as a leader unless you truly are a leader. It’s a quality that cannot be faked. And if you are indeed a true leader, you will have a marketing system in place. Guaranteed.

If you are perceived as a leader, others instinctively pick up on the fact that you are someone who can make big things happen for people. How is it that you’re perceived as a leader? Is it something you’re born with, like George Washington or Napoleon, or can you develop leadership qualities within yourself?

Well, if it is something you inherit, I’d be royally screwed. I’ve been an introvert most of my life, and have been content following the direction of others. That all began to change when I tapped into personal development and growth that my company offers. I learned that anyone with normal brain function can condition him/herself to become a leader.

So, what is it about you that people follow? Is it your natural charm, your good looks, the car you drive? Once again, if that were the case, I’d have to hang it up. What they follow is your perceived value. A question to ask yourself right now is this: Why would anyone want to do business with me? What value could I potentially offer?

If you find these questions difficult to answer, good. That’s a starting point. If you can’t perceive your own value, how can a prospect perceive that value? That’s a sign it’s time to work on yourself.

I don’t care what kind of marketing techniques you use; all success begins within. Let me say that again. All success begins within.

There is a myth that states that new things will make a new you. That’s why we’re so focused on buying that new car or getting that new job. Have you ever quit a job for another job, and found out that the only thing that changed was the color of the carpet?

If you don’t take concrete steps to change what’s inside of you, then you’re locked in an unending cycle. You’ve probably experienced this already. Soon enough, your new co-workers start to resemble your old ones. Your new car starts to remind you of your old clunker. Nothing really changes.

The truth is that a new you will attract new things. The Bible even says to “Seek first the Kingdom of God, and all other things shall be added unto you.” It’s the exact same thing I’m talking about here. You need to work harder on yourself than you do anything else, including your marketing. It is indeed a fact that your state of life reflects your state of mind.

If the old you is not attracting the kinds of prospects you want, then immediately get to work on the new you. Take every course you can find, both online and off. Focus particularly on courses on personal development. Build that person you want to become.

Have you ever seen a group of dogs together? Very quickly, they establish a hierarchy. The leader, or dominant dog, is the Alpha male or female. In everyday social situations, humans do the same thing, only we’re not so obvious.

Every successful person you see today is an Alpha. From the President, to rock stars and actors, every one of them has a dominant leader quality. If not, they wouldn’t have been able to gather such a following. It’s this quality that attracts prospects to you.

Education is the key. Your prospects want something they don’t have, and it’s not just money. If you can demonstrate through your knowledge and experience that you can help them get what they want, they’ll follow you anywhere.

There are literally thousands of network marketing companies out there. A simple Google search on “network marketing” bears this out. A search like this will likely yield claims of “Make $2500 a Week In Just 30 Days!”, or some such.

Before you write network marketing off as a scam, however, keep in mind that a lot of people have become quite wealthy in network marketing companies. And, contrary to what the popular line is, it’s not only the ones at the top who become ridiculously rich.

In fact, anybody with ambition and a solid work ethic can find a suitable company and succeed in network marketing. I’ve seen this firsthand, and continue to see it every day. It’s awesome to see ordinary people quit their jobs, pay off their homes, and embark on a permanent vacation.

It happens.

How do you choose a company that’s right for you? That’s a complicated question. There are a lot of factors to consider. Not only the products, but marketing methods, your upline, history of the company . . . It can be mind boggling.

You should research a lot of companies, talk to a lot of people, and base your decision on your results. Sometimes a company is not as big a factor as your individual sponsor. I’d rather be in a so-so company with an outstanding sponsor than an awesome company with a sponsor who’s AWOL.

Keep in mind, also, that it is a business. Too many network marketers treat their business as a hobby. If that’s been you, you need to fire yourself. You’ve done a poor job doing what needs to get done.

I find that one way to stay on track is to make a daily to-do list. I usually include at least 5 or 6 items, and do the one I know I’ll least enjoy first. I make the list at night, just before going to bed and leave it on my computer desk. That way, in the morning I know just what needs to be done.

If you set regular hours for your business, then you should stick that time religiously. Barring the inescapable family emergency or drama, you need to be at your desk working your business at the time you specified. You are the boss and the employee. In this case, the boss should rule with an iron fist.

In order to succeed, you’ve got to work your business as if your life depended on it. Think about it: If you knew beyond any doubt that the lives of you and your family depended on you getting 7 signups next month, would you find a way to do it? I know I would.

If you’ve looked around the Internet at all, you know that the time couldn’t be more perfect to start an online network marketing business.

Why do I say this? Well, with Internet traffic at an all time high, and people looking for alternative ways to make a living, especially in the current economy, many are seeking out online businesses to start. An online network marketing business is the ideal model in this case.

What makes owning your own network marketing business so attractive? Many would say it’s the lack of a boss. There’s nobody telling you what to do or how to do it. You don’t have to worry about biting your tongue, especially if your boss is someone you don’t really care for. If you own your own network marketing business, you never have to be around people you don’t like ever again (OK, maybe at family gatherings, but . . .).

A time clock is also a missing element when running your own business. You don’t have to start at a certain time, and work until the clock strikes a certain hour. You work when you deem it best. You set your own hours.

This is not to say that you can become a slacker. Just the opposite, in fact. Without a boss, you need to step up and become that boss. It’s now up to you to make sure things get done. It can be hard work.

You also need to be teachable. Of the people I’ve seen who fail in this business (and there are a lot of them), virtually all of them tried to reinvent the wheel. They thought they could develop a better system than the one already in place. It’s extremely important to follow the lead of your upline.

Try this: Find out who in your upline is making the kind of money you’d like to be making. Ask them what they do on a daily basis, and do the same. It’s that simple. If you do what the successful do, how can you be anything but successful yourself?

While there is really no right or wrong way to promote a network marketing business, I prefer to do almost all my marketing online. I say almost all, because I do teach a class once a week, and close to the end of the class I’ll announce that if anyone is interested in starting an online business to come see me after class. This usually brings me about 3 to 4 leads a week.

One reason I prefer online as opposed to offline marketing is that I enjoy it more. I’m not a “sales” type, not overly outgoing, and love writing articles and setting up online campaigns. When I go to bed at night, I simply can’t wait to check my autoresponder in the morning to see how many new leads I have to work with.

I also find online marketing more profitable. I can reach so many more people online than offline, and they’re much more targeted. Reaching more targeted people quite naturally translates into more sales.

Still another attractive aspect of online market is the automation. I’m open for business 24/7, and I’m global. I literally make money while I sleep. It’s the ultimate in leveraging my time.

So, if you’re one of those considering an online business (and in this economy, you’d be crazy not to), online network marketing is probably the most efficient way to go. It’s far from easy, but well worth the effort.

Everywhere we look these days we hear about networking. It’s been said that networking is all we can do to prepare for the economic train wreck up ahead.

In the corporate world we now see positions with titles like Chief Networking Officer (CNO). The ability to build alliances, negotiate, and communicate effectively is a primary prerequisite for most top level government jobs.

So, what exactly is networking, and should you be doing it? Why do so many people think it’s important?

Yes, you definitely should network. After all, you are involved in NETWORK marketing, aren’t you? What does it mean, to network?

Networking is simply meeting other people for the purpose of creating mutual beneficial relationships. These relationships can be professional, personal, or both.

Why is networking a good idea? For one, the more people you know, the more options are available to you. For instance, let’s say you lost your job. You could scour the want ads, post your resume, even visit potential employers to find out if they’re hiring.

But, let’s say you also network on a regular basis, and that you’ve developed amicable relationships with many people. Since they both know and like you, they’re likely to keep their eyes and ears open for any job openings they might come across. Even better, maybe some are even in a position to hire you themselves.

So how is it done? Do you just call somebody up and start chatting? Are there certain protocols to follow?

Well, I’ve been a therapist now going on 14 years, and my first response when getting to know someone is to ask questions. People love to talk about themselves. In networking, you have to give before you receive. This means really listening to the answers you get, then asking for clarification.

For instance, if somebody says, “I don’t like network marketing,” ask what they don’t like about it. Maybe they were with a company that insisted they go to weekly meetings. Maybe their sponsor was a jerk. Maybe they’re just saying that because they heard someone else say it.

Also, make sure the person you’re talking with knows you understand what they’re saying. Unfortunately, listening has become a lost art, and most people don’t feel heard when they speak. If you can demonstrate that you do hear and understand, you’ll gain a lot of points.

Dale Carnegie said it best: “To be interesting, be interested.” If you do this enough, not only will you have won friends and influenced people, but you’ll become quite wealthy.
